Manchester wrestlers defeat Eastern on Senior Night


Manchester 43, Eastern 33

The Manchester wrestling team picked up a big win on senior night against Eastern with a thrilling pin in the final match of the night by senior Isaac Diaz to clinch a 43-33 win Wednesday night, Jan. 6.

Diaz overcame a 4-0 first period deficit and wrestled back before tossing his opponent for a fall that capped a thrilling comeback victory for the Squires.

Also winning for the Squires were Gavin Mize (195) by pin in 2:36, Preston Duffy (220) 8-2, and Trevor Dill (285) by major decision 12-2.

East Noble Invitational

The Squire wrestling team overcame a rough start to finish 2-1 at the East Noble Quad Meet Saturday, Jan. 9.

Manchester fell behind 20-0 against Elkhart Central, cut the lead to 38-32, but it wasn’t enough in a 41-32 loss.

The Squires responded with a 48-21 win over Lakeland and a 45-30 victory over East Noble.

Highlights from the Lakeland match were a win by Dylan Stroud over a state-ranked opponent at 138 pounds, and Elijah Burlingame picking up his 100th win of his career.

Manchester faced East Noble, a team that defeated Elkhart Central earlier in the day, in its final match of the day and won six of the final eight matches to clinch the win.

Stroud, Burlingame, Zach France, and Dominic Lincoln all finished the day 3-0, while Mize was 2-0 on the day. Nelson, Caudill, and Preston Duffy went 2-1, while Jordan Ayres was 1-1, and Serrano and Trescott Duffy each finished 1-2. 


Senior Logan Cox continued his undefeated season, moving to 9-0, with a win at 195 pounds, to highlight Northfield’s 52-28 loss to Peru Wednesday night, Jan. 6.

Also winning for the Norse were Micah Higgins (220) by pin, Mason Osborn (285) by pin, Jaydan Goshert (182) by pin, and Ethan Galbraith (152) 14-7.

In JV action, Dylan Osborn (145) won by pin, and Mason Sommers (182) won 4-3.


Lewis Cass 57, Southwood 24

The Southwood wrestling team lost a 57-24 decision Tuesday night, Jan. 5.

Mica Dale won by pin in overtime in the 220 pound weight class, while Bryce Wyatt (195) got the pin, while Cayden Prickett and Thomas Charles each picked up wins for the Knights.


Wabash 39, Maconaquah 38

The Wabash wrestling team squeaked out a 39-38 win over Three Rivers Conference foe Maconaquah Wednesday, Jan. 6.

Winning for the Apaches were Jared Brooks, Ethan Higgins, Anthony Long, Sickafus, Berry, Zapata, and Chad Wyatt.
