Lady Norse win MSD volleyball contest

Northfield took control early and held on for a county and conference win over Southwood 25-17, 25-17, 23-25, 25-16.

Elise Gottschalk had 15 points and 30 digs for Northfield, Kenzie Baer had 14 points, 10 kills and 32 digs, Addi Baker had 17 points and 24 digs, and Abigail Hunter had 33 assists and 13 digs for Northfield. Southwood was led by Erin Lehner with 10 points, five kills and 12 digs, Alli Lopez with six points, seven digs and seven assists, and Allison Steels with five points, 10 digs and 16 assists.

Southwood won the JV contest 25-20, 25-23.

For Northfield, Alaina Winer had seven point, seven assists and three digs, followed by Mya Denney with five points and two digs, Ella Haupert with four point, two kills and two digs, and Rylee Barney with four kills and three digs.

Southwood was led by Courtney Dutton with six points and 16 digs, Avery Shrider had five points, three kills and nine digs.

Southwood 3, Wabash 1

Southwood held off Wabash in a 25-21, 16-25, 25-12, 28-26 Thursday, Sept. 26.

For Southwood, Lopez had 13 points and 10 assists, while Lehner had 12 points and seven digs, Erin McGouldrick had 10 kills, Marissa Metzger had seven points, six kills and three digs, and Allison Steele had eight points, eight assists and 10 digs.

Southwood won the JV contest won 25-16, 25-23.

Trista Roser had 10 points, four aces, three kills and four digs, Barney had eight points and three digs and two kills, while Kylie Ray had three points and five assists.

Southwood 3-1 at Eastern Hancock Invite

Southwood went 3-1 on the day at the Eastern Hancock Invitational Saturday, Sept. 28.

The Knights started the tournament with a 25-20, 25-12 win over Beech Grove, followed by a 19-25, 25-23, 15-5 win over Centerville.

Southwood won its third straight with a 25-10, 25-19 win over Northestern, but dropped a 25-18, 25-16 decision to Frankton.


Manchester 3, Winamac 2

The Squires won a marathon match at Winamac Monday, Sept. 23.

The Squires swept the first two sets 25-13, 25-19 and looked to be cruising to a straight-set win, but Winamac had other ideas.

The hosts battled back in the next two sets 25-23, 27-25 to set up a deciding set for the win that Manchester pulled out 15-9.

Greer led the way with 22 points and nine digs, followed by Kline with 14 points, 25 assists and 13 digs, Pegg with nine kills and three assists, Sites with 31 digs and seven points, and Ondrla with 11 points and 13 digs.

The JV improved to 12-4 with a 25-20, 25-23 win over Winamac.

Allison Zartman led the way with 13 kills and 10 digs, followed by Anna Zartman with 19 aces and four aces, Barrett with seven digs and three aces, and Drasny had five kills and five digs.

Maconaquah 3, Manchester 0

The Squires never found their way in a 25-8, 25-15, 25-15 loss to Maconaquah Thursday, Sept. 26.

Kline had five points, seven assists and six digs, Ondrla had three points and seven digs, Day had four kills and eight digs, and Sites had two points and 12 digs.

The JV team lost 25-20, 27-29, 15-11.

Anna Zartman had five kills, 19 digs and 12 assists, Allison Zartman had seven kills and 10 digs, and Lauren Barrett had 14 digs and two aces.

The C-team lost 25-23, 25-11.

Olivia Neal had eight kills and four digs, while Trinity digs had seven digs and seven assists, and Aliala Atienza had two kils and 10 digs.


Wabash 3, Madison Grant 2

Wabash came back from a two-set deficit to squeak out a 21-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-11, 15-10 win over Madison Grant.

Alivia Short had 15 points, 10 kills and nine digs, followed by Mariah Wyatt had seven points, 11 kills, 10 blocks and seven digs, and Haylie Faust had 33 digs, 15 points and three kills. Lexie Westendorf had 11 points, 16 assists and 12 digs, while Emma Tracy had four points, seven digs and 12 assists.

The JV team lost to Madison Grant 25-21, 25-16.


Northfield pulled out a 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 25-18 conference over Tippecanoe Valley Thursday, Sept. 26.

Baker had 28 points, 22 digs and 18 kills, while Hunter had nine points, 36 assists and 14 digs, Baer had five points, nine kills and 23 digs, Gottschalk had 12digs, and Meyer had 14 digs.

The JV team lost to Valley 25-9, 20-25, 15-6.

Kenzie Griffin had nine points, six kills and six digs, Ella Hunter had three points, nine assists and 15 digs, and Avery Shrider had two points, four kills and five digs.

Northfield JV team went 2-2 at the Wabash JV Invitational Saturday, Sept. 28.

The JV Norse started the day with a 25-16, 25-15 win over Southern Wells, but lost to Wabash 25-19, 25-8 to Wabash. They lost to Northwestern 25-12, 25-13, but bounced back with a 25-18, 18-25, 16-14 win over Taylor.
