Lloyd headed To Jackson

Southwood grad Jacob Lloyd signed hit letter of intent to further his baseball career at Jackson College in Michigan next season.
Lloyd was selected first team all county and first team all conference as a catcher for the Knights this past season.
Lloyd said he enjoyed the atmosphere at Jackson.
“The coaches and the guys are all really great individuals and I’m excited to start my studies,” he said.

Foster children get books of their own

About 90 local foster care youngsters have new backpacks and a summer’s supply of books.
The Indianapolis Colts, along with The Ford Meter Box Co., the Indiana Department of Child Services and Cargo Services Inc. kicked off the 2015 Books for Youth season on Thursday, June 11, at the Ford plant in Wabash.
The Colts’ traveling museum – Colts in Motion – along with Colts cheerleaders and the team’s mascot, Blue, were on hand as part of the celebration. The cheerleaders posed for pictures, signed autographs and helped distribute the backpacks, while Blue also played catch with the youngsters on hand.

Local dojo black belts 2 men

Two Wabash Valley Shuri-Ryu Karate Academy students were black belted on May 15, an honor bestowed upon them by Sensei Mike Castro (center). Rob Barton (left) and Tommy Music (right) traded in their brown belts when Castro decided that they had earned to move up in rank, according to Music. “It’s an honor to be promoted to black belt,” Music said in an interview with The Paper of Wabash County. “I cried. It’s seven years coming. Almost seven years that Mr. Barton and I have been coming down (to the dojo) anywhere from five to six days a week, one to two hours at a time. It’s been a long road to now and it’s an honor.” Photo provided

Lady Squires post-season run ends

The youthful Manchester Lady Squires softball team traveled to Newton Park in Lakeville Saturday to play in their first ever semi state, falling to No.9 Elwood, 6-0, to end their post-season run.
The Squires threatened in the top of the first when Brooklyn Howard drew a one out walk and stole second before Celina Carter sacrificed her to third. The Squires failed to score, but got out of a jam themselves in the bottom of the inning.

Norse golfer advances to regional

The Northfield and Manchester golf teams made the trek north to play in the always tough Warsaw sectional Friday with the Norse tying for sixth and the Squires finishing 10th.

Lady Squires win first sectional title

It took the Manchester Lady Squires nine innings to get it done, but get it done they did winning the Lewis Cass softball sectional 2-1 in nine innings over Oak Hill Thursday to win the Squires first ever softball sectional.
Sydney Day scored twice for the Squires, once in the fifth and the winning run on a wild pitch in the ninth.
