Kelby Ridenour, 47

Kelby Ridenour passed away on May 6, 2019, at the age of 47 in Portland, Ore. In true Kelby style, he was brave and resilient in his fight against cancer.

Kelby was born on Aug. 11, 1971, in Indianapolis. He attended Southwood High School (Class of 1989) and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Class of 1993). He also had an MBA from Indiana University. He had lived in Portland since 2000.

Kelby is survived by his wife, Keri Ridenour of Portland, Ore.; parents David and Sue Ridenour of Wabash; sister Julie (Michael) Perea of Livermore Calif.; and an extended family of aunts and uncles, cousins, nephews, and friends.

He was always quick to share a witty line, bring a smile to brighten someone’s day, and lend an ear. He was very fond of the outdoors and could be found golfing, kayaking, hiking, or running.

If there was a Cubs game, you can bet he was watching. He may not have had the opportunity to watch the Cubs play in every stadium in America, but rest assured he saw plenty of games clad in flip flops, cargo shorts, and Cubs jersey drinking a beer with peanuts in the stands!

While in high school, he developed a great passion for golf. It was a sport that he played all his life. He traveled near and far in his search for a great day on the course. He even managed to get a hole in one at Bandon Dunes in Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that a donation be made in Kelby’s name to the new golf program at Southwood. Please send checks to Southwood Athletic Department and put in the memo: golf club. Helping to support a young Southwood area student develop a love for golf the way Kelby loved golf would be a great way to honor him.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for June 15, 2019.
