One killed, one injured in raid

A Wabash man was shot and killed Thursday evening as police were trying to serve a warrant as part of a drug investigation.

According to Sgt. Tony Slocum, Indiana State Police Public Information Officer at the Peru Post:

The preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police detectives revealed that at approximately 5:45 p.m. Thursday, officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) served a search warrant at 63 East Main Street, Apt. 3, Wabash. After officers made entry into the residence, there was an exchange of gunfire between law enforcement and the occupant(s) inside.

Two people inside the home appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds. Roger D. Hipskind, 37, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 35-year-old women was transported to a Fort Wayne hospital. No officers were injured.

Slocum said it has not yet been determined if Hipskind was shot by an officer or if it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He later said that two people were arrested during an investigation Thursday evening.

According to Sgt. Tony Slocum, ISP Public Information Officer at the Peru Post: Gabrielle Bolin, 26 and Curt Bolin, 31, both from Wabash, were arrested on multiple arrest warrants.

Gabrielle was wanted for failure to appear for possession of narcotics and theft. Curt was wanted for failure to appear for resisting law enforcement, possession of a narcotic, and theft.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department served the warrant as part of a criminal investigation conducted by the Wabash County Sheriff’s Department.

This is an ongoing investigation. No further information will be released at this time.

Upon completion of the investigation, information will be forwarded to the Wabash County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
