Christ United launches virtual VBS

The Christ United Methodist Church in Wabash kicked off its Vacation Bible School on Monday, June 1, in a different way than they have ever done before.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, most churches have canceled the yearly VBS program, but Sheila Gilley, the director of education and VBS at Christ UMC, just couldn’t not have a program for the kids.

“Obviously, we cannot do our traditional Bible school. We had to come up with an alternative because last year, at the People’s Choice Awards, we were voted best in the county,” said Gilley. “So, I had to do something for the kids.”

Gilley discussed options with many people before landing on the idea for a “drive-through” VBS.

Gilley, along with her trusty volunteers set up in the parking lot of the church on Monday with five booths for parents to drive through and receive materials for the week, that they and their children will do from home.
